One of my husband's favorite things to eat is a nice juicy ham. Believe me, he can devour a ham in no time. With the encouraging words of my mother-in-law, I recently mastered the art of ham baking ... And she's right, there's really nothing to it.

But you know what?

There's even less to preparing a ham in the crock pot!

Cooking a ham in the slow cooker truly couldn't be any easier. And the result is very tender, juicy meat infused with the flavors of the cooking liquid. Our cooking liquid of choice ~ pure maple syrup. Yes, this Maple Crock Pot Ham recipe is the newest to join our ham recipe arsenal.

And as I said, there's really nothing to preparing this truly-flavorful, tender slow cooker ham. The toughest part is buying the ham, as you have to keep in mind the size of your crock pot.

Look for a ham on the smaller side, approximately 4 to 6 pounds depending on yourcrock potshape and size. Then simply place the ham in the crock pot, pour in a flavorful cooking liquid ... like maple syrup, ... and then let it cook for several hours.

That's it! No really ... that's it.

For this Maple Crock Pot Ham recipe, I whisk up a mixture of pure maple syrup, unsweetened applesauce, and a touch of cinnamon for the cooking liquid. I'm partial to dark, rich Grade B maple syrup for its robust, deep maple flavor ... but any pure maple syrup works fine.

Maple Crock Pot Ham

This Maple Crock Pot Ham recipe delivers up tender, juicy ham infused with the subtle sweetness of pure maple syrup. Cooking a ham truly couldn't be any easier!

prep time: 25 Mcook time: 5 Mtotal time: 30 M

ingredients:

  • 4 to 6 lb. fully cooked bone-in ham
  • 1/2 c. pure maple syrup
  • 1/2 c. unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon

instructions:

How to cook Maple Crock Pot Ham

  1. Lightly spray crock pot with non-stick cooking spray. Remove ham from packaging and discard any flavoring packet. Check end of bone for a plastic cap and, if present, discard. With a sharp knife, score skin & fat of the ham about 1/8-inch deep by making cuts about every 2 inches all the way across the ham {this allows flavor to more easily penetrate into the ham while cooking}. Place ham in crock pot.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together maple syrup, applesauce, and cinnamon. Pour maple mixture over ham.
  3. Place cover on crock pot. Cook ham for 3 to 4 hours on HIGH or 5 to 6 hours on LOW, until meat is tender and internal temperature reaches 140°F. Baste once with juices in the crock pot. {Do not baste repeatedly as removing the lid from the slow cooker drops the temperature and increases cooking time.}
  4. Remove ham to a serving platter or cutting board. Tent with foil to keep warm and allow to rest 10 to 15 minutes before slicing. Slice and serve.

TRACEY'S NOTES

  1. If you'd like, drizzle a tiny bit of warm maple syrup over the ham slices for an added touch of maple sweetness!
